The School of Decision Sciences (SDSC) held its 10th Anniversary Celebration Dinner cum Decision Analytics Outstanding Award Presentation Ceremony at the Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel and Towers on 6 June 2025. The event celebrated the achievements of the school over the past decade and recognized the contributions of colleagues, alumni, and partners who have supported the school’s development. The dinner attracted over 180 participants, including Legislative Council member Hon Rock Chen Chung-nin, SBS, JP, Chairman of the University Council Dr the Hon Moses Cheng Mo-chi GBM, GBS, OBE, JP, President Simon Ho Shun-man, members of the Board of Governors, management, industry representatives, as well as faculty, students, and alumni from SDSC, demonstrating a strong commitment to the development of decision sciences and innovative technologies.
Coinciding with the university’s 45th anniversary celebration, the dinner not only congratulated the school on its outstanding achievements over the past decade but also marks the 45th anniversary of HSUHK’s growth and success. As one of the university’s key academic units, the school has been dedicated to promoting education and research in fields such as data science, computer science, insurance and risk analysis, supply chain, and information management since its establishment in 2014; continuously enhancing teaching quality and providing practical training for students to cultivate future tech talent.
In his congratulatory speech, Dr the Hon Moses Cheng Mo-chi, Chairman of the University Council, mentioned: “Over the past 45 years, we have gradually developed from a college into a vibrant private university, becoming an important part of higher education in Hong Kong. These achievements are inseparable from the support and efforts of every faculty member, alumni, student, and partner. The school will continue to innovate and break new ground, leading the development of decision sciences and inspiring the next generation of future leaders. The University will also continue to leverage its influence to nurture more outstanding talents for Hong Kong and the international community.”
Professor Chan Wai-sum, Dean of the School, also noted in his welcoming remarks: “The school has been actively promoting data-driven decision-making applications and business model innovation, emphasizing that teaching and research must be grounded in real life and closely collaborate with industry partners. By promoting deep integration of industry, academia, and research, we are committed to enhancing the scientific nature of strategic decision-making and operational management, focusing on high-quality and impactful applied research to assist industry progress and social development.”
The event also featured the presentation of the Decision Analytics Outstanding Award 2025. Established in 2022, this award aims to recognize enterprises that excel in the application of decision analytics technologies. These companies have played a significant role in driving innovation and improving business efficiency, demonstrating the critical impact of decision analytics in modern business.
